I have just installed Flash Builder 4.5 on my Windows 7 Enterprise edition. I installed this using my username (not Administrator), which has local administrative rights. When I start the program, I'm getting the error

---------------------------

Invalid Configuration Location

The configuration area at 'C:\Users\Administrator\Adobe Flash Builder 4.5\cascaded\308971\configuration' could not be created. Please choose a writable location using the '-configuration' command line option.

Any reason for this error and what's the workaround?

Flash Builder 4.5 the import could not be found

$

I just upgraded from Flash Builder 4 to 4.5 and have imported one of my FB 4 projects. I am now seeing an orange question mark in the gutter next to all of my import statements that are importing local classes (as well as everywhere the said class methods are used) and an orange underline appears under the import statement. When I hover over the underline it says that the import could not be found.

The class files do in fact exist and the project compiles and runs without a problem (I use ANT to build this project).

If I open one of the class files in question then change something (i.e press space bar) and hit save then go back to the file importing it the orange question mark is gone for that import, I get the code assist and CTL+Click links me to the class file. However, if I close that file and reopen it again cannot find the class file.

The classes in question are stored under my project's src dir as:

- src

+---com

+---myappname

+---services

+---utils
          etc
...

and my import statements look like:

import
com.myappname.utils.*;
import com.myappname.services.remoteService;

Any ideas? Is this a FB 4.5 "enhancement"? I've tried deleting and re-importing the project, refreshing the project and am now kind of at a loss of what to do. It's annoying enough that I may need to downgrade to 4.

Spark DataGrid scrollToIndex?

In Flex I used to use the dataGrid.scrollToIndex(XX) to scroll down to a selected row.

I can't seem to get anything to work for the Spark DataGrid in FB4.5. Searching around I tried to impliment this:

dataGrid.ensureCellIsVisible(selectedSlideIndex);

dataGrid.setSelectedIndex(selectedSlideIndex);

The selectedSlideIndex is set when a row is selected to store the int.

I can't get the DataGrid to scroll to the index, OR select the index..

So what is the Spark DataGrid version of the MX DataGrid.scrollToIndex?

Hi,

Maybe you could help me out here as I’ve search the web and Adobe forum but could not find any answer.

I just installed Flash Builder 4.6 (after uninstalling 4.5.1), now when I run my app, the adl.exe crashes (error details below). I thought because I have an app that was created with 4.5, but then I created a new app with this version and it still crash. I have Windows 7 64-bit PC.

Thanks so much. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have a pure actionscript project in flash builder 4.6. When I set the stage with this:

[SWF(width = "640", height = "480", frameRate = "60", backgroundColor = "#000000")]

Flash builder is ignoring it. How do I fix this?

cheers.

Invalid Configuration Location

Hi,

I have used AAMEE to create an MSI install for our Adobe Creative Suite 6 Master Collection.

I have followed the instructions to install Acrobat, then the main packages then the other exceptions.

I am now testing with a standard user account on our school network.

When the test user attempts to run Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 the following error occurs:

INVALID CONFIGURATION LOCATION:

The configuration area at \\servername\desktops\shared student desktop area\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\cascaded\335153\configuration could not be be created. Please choose a writable location using the " -configuration" command line option...

Please help...

Flash Builder 4.6 closes after opening

I have been using Flash Builder 4.6 for a sometime now to develop some android apps. This morning I try to start it and Flash Builder would open the splash screen and silently close. I have renamed the old work space but it created a new work space and closed again silently. I tried to rename the metadata folder, Flash Builder recreated a new metadata folder and closes again. I tried to follow these http://agileui.blogspot.com/2009/09/flashbuilder-4-silently-fails-while.html instructions but I get an error that

Gumbo.exe is not recognized as an Internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

So guys please help me, it is very frustrating to fight something which gives no errors. I am using windows 7. Thank you in advance

Compiler not embedding current assets / cache cleaning

$

dear all,

In FlashBuilder 4.7 (beta + release), it consistently happens that linked assets aren't (re)loaded when compiling. Cleaning the project doesn't seem to help. Restarting FB, then cleaning + building mostly reloads the assets.

Is there a way to (manually?) clean all caches, the way a restart of FB does?

This question could be related to: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4809438#4809438 and http://forums.adobe.com/message/2921124#2921124

This seems reproducible:

1. Make 'assets.fla' file in Flash Professional, create one symbol with some random graphics, ActionScript Linkage Class set to 'SomeGraphicAsset', publish to 'assets.swf'

2. In Flash Builder 4.7, create new ActionScript Mobile project

3. Make new Class "SomeGraphic", link with previously created graphics in Flash:

package

{

          import flash.display.MovieClip;

          [Embed(source="/../embedded-assets/assets.swf", symbol="SomeGraphicAsset")]

          publicclass SomeGraphic extends MovieClip

          {

                    publicfunction SomeGraphic()

                    {

                              super();

                    }

          }

}

4. In constructor of entry-point class for project add:

var somegraphic:SomeGraphic = new SomeGraphic();

this.addChild(somegraphic)

5. compile / debug project

6. open 'assets.fla' in Flash Pro. Change something to the 'SomeGraphicAsset' symbol. Publish to .swf file.

7. In Flash Builder, debug -> shows old file without updated graphics

8. In Flash Builder, clean project, debug -> shows old file without updated graphics

9. Close Flash Builder, reopen Flash Builder, clean project, debug -> mostly the updated graphics show.

Any feedback to make this more workable, or a way to fully flush all caches in FB are greatly appreciated.

It's crazy having to close / open FB every time a graphical asset changes in your project.

- this has been tested on 2 different Mac OSX 10.8.x computers, FlashBuilder 4.7 AIR SDK 3.5

- sample project can be downloaded here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/608333/AssetProblemSampleProject.zip

hoping for some feedback,

Bart

Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 Plug-in Utility.app fails to run

I'm attempting to run "Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 Plug-in Utility.app" on my new MacBook Pro OSX 10.8. I have a license key for Flash Builder 4.7 which appears to install without issue, but what I want to do after it installs is run "Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 Plug-in Utility.app" in "/Application/Adobe Flash Builder 4.7/utilities" to install the plug-in into my Eclipse Juno (64-bit) development environment. I have tried running the app from the command line and the UI, but in both cases after I authenticate I see a window open up with nothing accept an "OK" button (see below). This button is does not respond to clicks or the return key, and the only way to close it is to click the program icon and select quit.

Screen Shot 2013-07-16 at 4.08.14 PM.png

When I run this from the command line I get the following message:

[Deprecated] Zero G InstallerAnywhere: Forcing java.vm.version to $(java.version)-zeroG in order to preserve backward compatibility

Also, at one point about 2 months ago I was able to run the plug-in utility for 4.5 so I tried that again, and it no longer works. It gives me the same issue I'm having with 4.7.

Can anybody help me out, or at least point me in a direction?

Problem exiting eclipse 3.7 while using FB4.6 Plugin

I've tried many different versions of eclipse and I've come down to the realization that it is FB4.6.

Everytime I exit eclipse a pop up saying there are errors look in the metadata/.log file.

It appears as if FB4.6 is missing some of the plugins that it is trying to use. Any solutions?

Here is the .log File:

This is using eclipse 3.6. Every other version that I tested throws a similar if not identical .log file.

I've tried reinstalling everything, and starting in a clean work environment.

No Design Mode in Flash Builder 4.7

$

It took me many hours to figure this out so I thought I would share what I discovered to make it easier on others.

1. Flash Builder 4.7 no longer has Design Mode (being able to design forms graphically). 4.6 was the last version to support it.

2. Adobe will not sell you 4.6 (or 4.5). They only sell 4.7. They suggest you find a retailer who has an old box.

3. Don't bother complaining, the word is "real programmers don't use design mode".

4. I called support yesterday to get some questions answered. I was told the wait time is over 2 hours and I can't leave a callback number. (At least at that time, they only let you leave a callback number for product returns - which I also did.)

I spent over 8 hours on this yesterday at a cost, in terms of lost revenue, of 4 figures. I hope this saves you some time.

Flash builder doesn't reflect changes made to SWC files, how do I fix this?

This is a very old problem that has become unbearable so I'm hoping someone out there has a solution:

I use SWCs I have generated in Adobe Flash Professional in my Flash Build projects. The problem is when these are updated flash builder absolutely refuses to recognize the changes to them.

I have tried "refresh", "clean project" I've restarted flash builder, and it still shows and runs with the old content. I verified that the swc file itself has the new content in it, the error 100% lies within Flash Builder.

Edit: This is very far from an acceptable solution but for posterity's sake: The only way to get your code to recognize the changes is to go to: 'Project Settings' -> 'ActionScript Build Path' -> 'Library Path' then remove the changed SWCs close out these menus, then navigate back to there and readd them. Sometimes this doesn't even work and you must also restart Flash Builder

Load a PDF in StageWebView - iOS

I am trying to create an iOS app that loads my companies product catalogue into a webview stage. I cannot figure out after a lot of google how to access this local file, although external files load fine. I'm trying to use the "file:" command. I'm doing this in flash builder.

<![CDATA[

                              import flash.display.MovieClip;

                              import flash.media.StageWebView;

                              import flash.geom.Rectangle;

                              var webView:StageWebView = new StageWebView();

                              var yOffset = 47

                              {

                                             public function FestoKP() {

                                                       webView.stage = this.stage;

       webView.viewPort = new Rectangle( 0, yOffset, stage.stageWidth, stage.stageHeight - yOffset);

       webView.loadURL( "file:///asset/Festo_KP_Catalogue.pdf" );

                                                       closeBtn.visible = true

       }

       public function Close() {

       webView.stage = null;

       closeBtn.visible = false;

       }

                              }

Namespace 2.6 in the application descriptor file should be equal or higher than the minimum version

I imported a fb mobile project into fb4.6 but get this error:

Namespace 2.6 in the application descriptor file should be equal or higher than the minimum version 3.1 required by Flex SDK.

Is there a quick fix for this?

FlashBuilder 4.6 won't install on Win7, 64bit or WinXP 32bit -- tried 4 different computers.

Hello,

There seems to be something wrong with the Flashbuilder 4.6 installation for Windows. I've downloaded the installation 3 different times (the download completes successfully each time), and tried installing it on 4 different computers 3 with Windows 7, 64bit OS and one with Windows XP 32bit OS. It hangs every time on the same spot, when it is trying to extract the files for the installation. It says "A problem has occurred while extracting some files. It appears it's always after or on the "updateInventory.dll" extraction. The installation doesn't actually ever get a chance to start, it's failing on the extraction of the files to install.

Install File: FlashBuilder_4_6_LS10.exe 806 MB (845,374,656 bytes)

Does anyone have any ideas of how to work around this issue? I'm not sure that anyone with Windows could possibly use this product (trial or purchased) with this issue. (not a great release Adobe!)

New to programming. Should I use Flash Builder 4.6 to create CRUD interface to MySQL?

$

Having just acquired Creative Cloud subscription, I see that I have access to Flash Builder 4.6 Premium. I haven't figured out yet if I will eventually have access to Flash Builder 4.6 for PHP when / if it is released.

I am relatively new to programming. I want to create a desktop application, perhaps a web application, to manage a MySQL database. I am not, at this time, concerned with mobile applications. I'm primarily interested in just managing the MySQL data -- CRUD (create, read, update, delete) operations.

Hopefully I've provided enough context. My question concerns whether learning Flash Builder 4.6 and Flex programming is an appropriate choice. Alternatively, I could just focus on learning basic PHP programming or perhaps learning to use one of the PHP frameworks (CakePHP, CodeIgniter, or Zend). It seems like learning these frameworks will take time as well, so I don't know where I should begin.

I would really value your perspective. Are the Flash Builder related technologies here to stay? Is Flash Builder primarily suitable for mobile applications (rather than desktop or web)? Would it be more or less difficult to learn Flash Builder and Flex than PHP and one of the PHP frameworks with a view to building a MySQL CRUD application?

Thank you, so very much -- for your time and expertise.

Kevin
